Only a few weeks ago it became known that Norwegian had founded a second airline in Sweden. Now it is also clear why, because the original Swedish branch is facing bankruptcy.
A spokesperson confirmed that the Swedish subsidiary will file for insolvency. A continuation of operations is not planned. Norwegian will seamlessly continue its activities through the new Swedish subsidiary . According to official statements, this will not result in any job losses.
In the meantime, the group has been able to meet all of the requirements in the insolvency proceedings conducted in Ireland and Norway and has left bankruptcy protection on May 26, 2021. Norwegian was able to get the lion's share of the capital it needed on the financial market. In the future, the airline will focus on flights within Scandinavia as well as European tourist routes. Long-haul routes will no longer be reactivated, but the corresponding subsidiaries are now in the process of being dissolved.
