The low-cost airline Norwegian Air Shuttle will in future appear under a new company logo. This will initially be rolled out on the social media channels and on the homepage. The fleet will also be redesigned at a later date.
The Norwegian aviation company describes the step as modernization. But there is much more to it, as there was a bitter legal dispute with the Noba Bank Group over who was allowed to use the logo and the “Norwegian” brand. “Norwegian Bank” was once a wholly owned subsidiary of the airline. However, the sale and merger took place, so that today the financial activities are only a brand of the Noba Bank Group. This has now replaced the design “inherited” from the airline with a new corporate identity. Now Norwegian Air Shuttle is also following suit with a new appearance.
The carrier emphasizes that the new logo should clearly show “the personality and uniqueness of the company and the brand”. There is a certain similarity to the previous appearance, but it now seems a little fresher. The small airplane symbol that peeked out from under the lettering in the old logo is now next to the airline's name, and the lettering behind the airplane is smaller and forms part of the plane's body.
“Norwegian’s logo and brand are very well known and valued, and we are very proud of it. Although we are innovating now, we promise that our customers will recognize us. After more than 20 years, a modernization is in order, giving Norwegian a more modern, warmer and clearer expression that will certainly take us into the next 20 years,” explains Christoffer Sundby, Executive Vice President of Market and Customer Service at Norwegian.
The logo, which is now being gradually replaced, has been in use since 2002. At that time, the company transformed itself from a regional airline into a low-cost airline that was also active on long-haul routes at times. The new logo will gradually be installed on the aircraft. The new design will also be visible on screens and other points in the future. It is currently not clear which machine will be repainted first.
