In November 2020, the number of passengers in the Federal Republic of Germany fell sharply again. The industry association ADV sees no prospect of improvement. Only 1.960.022 passengers used the German airports in November 2020. That is less than ten percent of the previous year's figure.
The cargo volume increases by + 3,5% (up + down) to 441.784t. The number of commercial flight movements decreased by -68,7%, that is 50.560 take-offs and landings. November in view - Corona pandemic keeps air traffic on the ground
- Domestic German traffic falls by -91,0%.
- The European traffic falls by -89,6%.
- The intercontinental connections fall by -91,8%.
The air traffic demand at German airports remains at less than 10% of the normal value. Air traffic is continuing to decline in all of its key figures: seat availability, occupancy in the few planes still flying, air traffic demand, booking figures ... The need for people to travel across borders is still high. But contact and travel restrictions stand in the way of this. The industry is relying on improved test strategies. Winter presents the industry with unprecedented challenges, and many players are threatened with their very existence.
From January to November, 60,9 million passengers (arrival + departure) were counted at German airports (-73,6%).
- The domestic German traffic is -73,5% below the previous year's volume.
- European traffic decreases by -73,1%.
- Intercontinental traffic falls by -76,2%.
- Commercial flight movements decreased by -57,8%.
Looking at the traffic figures is no pleasure. Air transport demand remains at a low level. No major changes in the volume level are to be expected in the weeks leading up to Christmas. Despite a few positive bookings in a few tourist destinations, only a slightly higher volume can be expected. Only trips that are absolutely necessary are made. Private, tourist and business trips hardly take place. The airlines correct their offers downwards, adapt the capacities to the minimum demand. The winter months become a stress test for the aviation industry. The airports remain in lockdown even at the turn of the year, far from being profitable. But within the framework of services of general interest, they maintain the operation and accessibility of the regions from the air.
