The summer holidays begin today in the German state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The largest provider at Düsseldorf Airport is the Lufthansa subsidiary Eurowings. This offers around 70 destinations. Most of the time you fly to Palma de Mallorca, because up to ten flights per day have been announced to this destination.

“People finally want to travel again - and we are ready. After the long lockdown, we as the Eurowings team are looking forward to flying more and more guests to their holiday destinations safely, reliably and with the best possible service, ”says Jens Ritter, Chief Operating Officer of Eurowings. "We have used the time and extensively prepared for the new start over the past few months in order to give our guests a pleasant start to their vacation."

With an increasing vaccination rate, falling infection numbers and the lifting of travel restrictions, the demand for flights is increasing significantly. Tourist destinations are particularly in demand - above all Mallorca, Greece, the Canary Islands and Croatia. Eurowings reacted to this by gradually expanding its flight program and increased the offer in Düsseldorf alone, the largest Eurowings location, by another 40 percent during the holidays.

Eurowings offers around 70 destinations in 20 countries from Düsseldorf. From Cologne / Bonn there are 60 destinations in 18 countries. On the first holiday weekend, the carrier expects around 25.000 passengers in the state capital and 13.000 in Cologne. 4.000 Eurowings flights will take place in Düsseldorf during the holiday season, and just under 2.000 flights in Cologne. Even if Eurowings will again be offering a large part of its original route portfolio in the course of the summer, the 2021 summer program will only cover around two thirds of the capacity before Corona.

In May 2021, an average of 45 Airbus jets were in the air. In July and August 2021, Eurowings will operate around 70 aircraft in-house plus two wet-lease aircraft from Tuifly. Eurowings plans to have 80 aircraft in September. Almost 40 aircraft are stationed at the two large Eurowings locations in North Rhine-Westphalia in the summer: 26 aircraft in Düsseldorf, 13 in Cologne.
