The "zero covid strategy" pursued by Australia since the beginning of the corona pandemic has finally failed. Some heads of regional governments have already admitted this. Now the central government gives in and announces the opening of the borders.

First of all, fully vaccinated residents of the continent are to be given freedom to travel again. When returning or entering the country, they must first undertake a seven-day home quarantine. The government expects that 2021 percent vaccination coverage will be achieved in most regions by November 80.

Unvaccinated people are then only allowed to enter the state under 14 days of isolation in a special facility. International tourism will not start yet. Australia wants to gradually enable this again. First of all, they want to conclude so-called "Safe Travel Agreements" with various countries. The full vaccination against Covid-19 will most likely become a basic requirement for entry.

Qantas announces new international start

Qantas, the continent's largest airline, responded with satisfaction to the impending entry restrictions. The carrier plans to ramp up international scheduled services from November 14, 2021. For example, you want to fly between Sydney and London and Los Angeles three times a week. Boeing 787-9s are to be used as aircraft.

The carrier originally wanted to reactivate the international routes from December 18, 2021. Now this step is preferred. The route network is to be gradually ramped up. Qantas explained that it will increase or reactivate depending on demand. Furthermore, the company will only transport people who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
