Since July 5, 2022, the Greek Star Alliance member Aegean Airlines has been flying twice a week between Athens and Nuremberg in Germany. The strong Greek community in the metropolitan region and NürnbergMesse, which has its largest foreign representation in Athens, will also benefit from the new route.

Well over 10.000 people with Greek roots live in the city of Nuremberg alone. The new route is perfect for visiting friends and relatives in the old homeland. In terms of tourism, the center of ancient Greece, which was one of the most influential cultures of its time and is rich in architectural monuments, has a lot to offer anyway. "Athens was high on our wish list for new flight destinations," says Nuremberg Airport Managing Director Dr. Michael Horn the connection. This is also of essential importance for the economy: “We are in constant contact with our partners in business and at NürnbergMesse when it comes to expanding our route network. Athens is another important milestone here.”

Aegean Airlines is the largest airline in Greece, based in Kifisia and based at Athens Eleftherios Venizelos Airport. It is a member of the Star Alliance airline alliance. In addition to Athens, the airline has been flying from Thessaloniki to Nuremberg for several years.
