In Austria, people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in Austria can now have an extract from the electronic vaccination pass printed out in all pharmacies. Upon request, this will also be stamped and signed by the respective pharmacy, which should be requested, as the document otherwise has no forgery-proof features.

The document is not a new invention, just the PDF file that people with the so-called mobile phone signature or citizen card can print out themselves from the ELGA system. The document should be recognized within Austria - regardless of whether it is in the pharmacy or printed out yourself.

Abroad, it becomes problematic because, for example, the health ministries of Malta and Germany have stated on request that the self-expression cannot be recognized due to the lack of forgery-proof features. However, since the issuer can be clearly identified by the pharmacy's stamping and signing, the situation could now change. Nevertheless, travelers should find out which documents are required for entry and obtain information on this from the official bodies. The homepages of the respective states can be helpful. The embassies also provide information by telephone and email.

In order to be able to pick up the printout of the e-vaccination pass from an Austrian pharmacy, all you need is the e-card and an identification document. The latter can be omitted if you already have the new insurance card with a photo. Identification is necessary because the data is sensitive. There are no costs and you don't need an appointment. It's also quick and easy: it doesn't even take a minute at the pharmacy counter.
