Austria's Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) announced on Wednesday that the entry regulation would be changed from "mid/late next week". The previously practiced 2Gplus rule is to be abolished.

“We will design the entry regulations in such a way that the 3G proof is sufficient for entry into Austria. Of course, this does not apply to virus variant areas, ”explained Mückstein during a press conference. “The EU sets the EU travel rules. If you want to travel to Germany or Greece in the summer, for example, you will still need the green passport, which is what is provided until then. It then depends on the regulations that apply in the respective country".

An exact date for the entry into force of the easing announced by the Austrian Minister of Health when entering the Alpine republic has not yet been set. The member of the government announced that the amendment would be published in the Federal Law Gazette "mid/late next week". The current version is limited until February 28, 2022, but can be amended or extended by Wolfgang Mückstein at any time.

Currently, the entry rules that are still in force state that – apart from a few exceptions – only people who can prove three vaccinations against Covid-19 are completely exempt from conditions. Anyone who has "only" recovered or been vaccinated twice must also show a negative PCR test. This can also be made up for in Austria within 24 hours. In this case you have to fill out the pre-travel clearance. Transit travellers, i.e. people who change trains at an airport or travel directly from the airport abroad, are generally exempt.
