In the last few days, the corona situation in India has worsened, probably partly due to the new mutant B.1.617. The spread of exactly this CoV variant is now to be prevented by issuing new entry restrictions.

Austria will impose entry restrictions for India from Thursday: As Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein told the Council of Ministers, there will be a landing ban for direct flights. Since there are currently no direct scheduled flights to Austria, the government also wants to put a stop to private and charter flights. In addition, alternative flights to circumvent landing bans in other EU countries are to be prevented. That reports the ORF.

Anyone who enters Austria via transfer flights and has been to the subcontinent in the last ten days will be placed in quarantine upon entry. Incoming passengers have to convince the border officials that they have not been in India in the last ten days. Conversely, the controlling organs have to find those travelers who try to enter via detours. A specific tactic has not yet been mentioned.

Antigen tests are not accepted

Free testing after five days will still be possible, but only PCR tests will be accepted. This applies to Austrians as well as to other people with a place of residence in Austria. If you do not live in Austria, you should be obliged to show a negative PCR test before you travel. In Austria there are currently landing bans for aircraft from South Africa and Brazil. These are valid until May 2nd and are now also to be extended.
