In October 2021, 1,2 million passengers departed from the six main airports in North Rhine-Westphalia. In October of this year, 20,1 percent of all commercial passengers in Germany started from one of the major airports in North Rhine-Westphalia.

That is 843.800 or 215,8 percent more passengers than in October of last year (October 2020: 391.100). However, a comparison with the figures for the same month in 2019 shows that the pre-crisis level has not yet been reached. In October 2019, the airports were still able to register around 2,1 million passengers, according to the State Statistical Office.
