In October 2022, the Russian airlines had to lose a lot of feathers in direct comparison with the same month last year. Around 8,25 million passengers were transported, around a quarter less than a year ago. The occupancy fell by two percentage points to 817 percent.
The Russian authorities no longer publish passenger numbers. However, most carriers continue to announce their transport performance. These then also find their way into the media. The declines vary depending on the carrier, but without exception the five largest providers had to drop feathers in the double-digit range.
The providers that carried the most passengers in October 2022 are listed below. Depending on the airline, the declines are higher or lower in percentage terms, but the "Big Five" are equally affected by the loss of passengers.
- Aeroflot 1,784 million passengers (-15,9%)
- S7 Airlines 1,315 million passengers (-14,9%)
- Pobeda Airlines 1,035 million passengers (-22,8%)
- Ural Airlines 0,740 million passengers (-14,8%)
- Rossiya Airlines 0,673 million passengers (-34,5%)
Financially, things haven't been particularly rosy for the carriers either. Only five of the 20 largest Russian airlines managed to improve their operating results, namely Gazpromavia (by 88%), Izhavia (by 23,5%), NordStar (by 16,8%), IrAero (by 9%) and Smartavia (by 1,7, 60%). Three airlines with momentum well below the market average were leisure airlines Nordwind (-54%), Azur Air (-52,6%) and Ikar (-XNUMX%).
