Oman Air will reduce its fleet to 36 aircraft due to the corona pandemic. Before the crisis, the expansion to 70 machines was planned, but in the future 25 percent fewer machines will be operated.

Company boss Mohammed Al-Barwani announced this step to the newspaper WAF, but did not give any further details. In particular, he did not say which aircraft will leave Oman Air's fleet. It can be assumed that leasing machines will initially be returned to the lessors.

According to CH-Aviaiton.com, the airline owns the ten Airbus A330s, four Embraer 170s, two Boeing 737-800s and two Boeing 787-8s. The rest of the fleet is leased from various lessors. If it comes to the sale of own machines, this should be done according to rational criteria without pressure, emphasized the managing director of Oman-Air, referring to the currently low market prices.

The routes from Muscat to Athens, Beirut, Manchester and Casablanca will also be abandoned. The reason for this decision is that the routes mentioned are deficient. At the same time, Oman Air wants to conclude further codeshare partnerships. These are intended to compensate for the downsizing of one's own network.
