The recent easing of entry regulations in many popular holiday destinations for Austrians awaken the desire to travel just in time for the start of the Easter holidays.
Many don't want to wait for summer any longer and use the holidays for holidays at home and abroad. “Even if some countries are currently relaxing their entry rules, proof of vaccination, recovery or a test is still an important companion when traveling in Europe. The proof is sometimes still required for entry, sometimes also to show in restaurants or museums and at the latest for the return journey to Austria," explains ÖAMTC tourism specialist Magdalena Draxler.
Entry into Austria's neighboring countries
There are no longer any entry restrictions in Austria's neighboring countries of Switzerland, Liechtenstein, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Slovenia. Entry into these countries is therefore possible without proof or registration. However, there are still local measures in these countries - albeit relaxed ones - to protect against the corona virus. The most important is the FFP2 mask requirement, which in some countries, such as Slovenia or Slovakia, still applies on public transport or in buildings open to the public. When entering Germany, a 3G proof is still required, in Italy as well, in addition to a registration.
The corona measures on site can not only change quickly, but also differ within a country. "In order not to experience any nasty surprises when visiting a restaurant or museum, you should find out about the respective measures before you travel," advises the ÖAMTC expert.
Starting tomorrow entry to Croatia without restrictions
Just in time for the Easter holidays, Croatia is lifting almost all entry restrictions. Starting tomorrow, travelers from EU countries will be able to enter the country again without 3G proof. Wearing the mouth and nose protection, which was previously mandatory in public interiors and public transport, will only be a recommendation, it said. Masks remain mandatory in health facilities and old people's and nursing homes.
In the slightly more distant but equally popular destinations of Greece and Spain, restrictions still apply: 3G proof is required here. In Greece, random tests are also carried out after arrival. If the test result is positive, the travelers are subject to a quarantine obligation for five days, which can be ended without further testing if the course is mild or asymptomatic.
3G proof for return to Austria
Austria's entry regulations for the return journey should also not be forgotten - a 3G certificate is currently required. Without this, entry is only possible with registration and a ten-day quarantine, which can be ended as soon as a negative PCR or antigen test result is available.
