The regional airport Paderborn-Lippstadt was able to leave the insolvency proceedings under self-administration on April 30, 2021. The airport has been operating independently again since May 1, 2021. An agreement was reached with the creditors beforehand.

In the course of the procedure, the number of staff was greatly reduced. The operating company, which is now 77,9 percent in the hands of the Paderborn district, only has 64 employees. Previously there were 170. The city of Bielefeld has also dropped out and handed over its shares to the city of Paderborn. According to the airport, the creditors are said to have waived 75 percent of their claims.

A special feature in Paderborn is that the ground services are now provided by the company fire brigade. The staff originally employed in this area has been cut. The airport assumes that this constellation can handle around 300.000 travelers per year. Before the corona pandemic, there were around 700.000 passengers a year.
