A Ryanair flight from Milan-Malpensa to Palermo with 190 passengers had to be evacuated in Sicily on March 17, 2023. The background is that a bomb threat has been received against the Boeing 737 Max 200.
Some time after the start in Malpensa, a corresponding threat is said to have been received. In Palermo, explosives experts and emergency services rushed to the machine. The airspace around this airport was immediately closed. Numerous flights had to be diverted to other airports on the Italian island. Most of these ended up in Catania.
After an extensive investigation of the Boeing 737 Max 200, the police were able to give the all-clear. Nothing was found. Local media reports, among other things, that there was a suspicious piece of luggage in the hold, but it turned out to be completely harmless.
As a precaution, the passengers and crew members were evacuated to be safe in the event of any danger. This is the second bomb threat in a few days, as a United Airlines flight was recently aided a note that was on a toilet, threatened. The incident in the USA also turned out to be harmless.
