The airline SAS has two problems in the current 2022 summer timetable period: there are not enough staff and too few aircraft available. So you have to start cutting back and take around 4.000 connections out of the planning.
A spokeswoman confirmed this to the Swedish Dagens Industri and also pointed out that there were delays in the delivery of new machines. In the course of the corona pandemic, SAS cut numerous employees, especially in Sweden, because there was no program in this country that would have been comparable to short-time work.
The result is that many former employees have permanently turned their backs on the company and have reoriented themselves in other sectors. It is also extremely difficult to get new employees interested in aviation at the moment. However, SAS is not an isolated case, as airlines and airports in other EU countries and the United Kingdom are also suffering from acute staff shortages.
According to SAS, the flight schedule will have to be reduced by around five percent between May and August 2022. This corresponds to around 4.000 flights. One wants to rebook affected passengers so that the effects should be kept within the narrowest possible limits.
