The long Pentecost weekend is approaching and is traditionally used by many Austrians for a short vacation. Italy and Croatia are popular abroad, but the hoteliers' association claims that around two-thirds want to stay at home.
In cooperation with the market research institute Mindtake, 1.000 Austrians were asked about their holiday plans around Pentecost. 23 percent stated that they would definitely take a break over Pentecost. Of these, 62 percent want to spend their short vacation in Germany.
“This is great news for the industry. But of course: From wellness to active and pleasure holidays to city trips, our top hotel industry offers an unbeatable offer at an unbeatable price," says ÖHV President Walter Veit, himself a host in Obertauern.
The ÖHV official is confident that, in addition to the 23% fixed starters, a large proportion of the 22% who are undecided can be motivated at short notice: "Bookings are being booked at shorter notice than ever before. There's still a lot going on there.” The general rule is: If you still want to secure a room at your dream holiday destination, you have to be quick. This is particularly true in the center of the state: the most popular with domestic holidaymakers are Styria with 23%, Carinthia with 15% and Salzburg with 12%: these three federal states will together accommodate half of all domestic guests over the public holidays.
City trips are absolute classics at Pentecost: “The occupancy rate can climb to 70%. This is an important stimulus for the stricken companies," Veit points out and still sees some potential to convince undecided guests: "Almost all restrictions have been lifted, culture and pubs are open again, everyone is looking forward to guests. Nothing stands in the way of unforgettable days in Vienna, Salzburg, Graz and every other city in the country!”
