Austro Control GmbH is getting a new managing director, Philipp Piber, who will lead Austrian air traffic control alongside Valerie Hackl. The manager succeeds Axel Schwarz, whose contract expires on December 31, 2021 and will not be extended.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Transport, Piber emerged from an application process that was carried out with external support as the best-placed candidate. He has received a three-year contract with the option of a two-year extension. After holding positions in the Ministry of Finance and Transport, Philipp Piber has been with Austro Control since 2016, most recently as head of the Austrian Aviation Authority. The graduate economist was also the chairman of the advisory board of Austro Control International GmbH and has extensive international experience as a participant in a wide variety of committees.

"With Philipp Piber, Austro Control has gained a very motivated and committed managing director who not only knows the company well, but also has extensive expertise in various fields of aviation. I am convinced that together with Valerie Hackl we have an excellent team to quickly and effectively master the major challenges on the way to modern and green aviation. Of course, I would also like to thank Axel Schwarz for his extensive commitment over the past few years, ”emphasized Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler.
