In Prague, the airlines Eurowings and Smartwings will not compete particularly well, because on Monday it was announced that a codeshare and distribution agreement had been signed.
In future, selected Eurowings connections from the new base in Prague will also be offered under Smartwings flight numbers and sold via smartwings.com and other sales channels. Smartwings customers benefit from the growing number of direct connections of the Lufthansa Group airline from the Czech capital. During the Corona crisis, numerous non-stop connections to destinations in Europe were dismantled in Prague, which are now being successfully resumed.
“We are pleased about the codeshare agreement with our partner Smartwings, which will strengthen our position at our new base in the Czech Republic. We want to offer even more business and leisure travelers attractive non-stop connections to all of Europe directly from Prague - as a highly attractive European city, "said Eurowings CEO Jens Bischof.
“Our long-term priority is to expand our network. Thanks to the new partnership with Eurowings, we can offer our customers convenient connections to a broad portfolio of destinations, ”said Roman Vik, board member and CEO of Smartwings.
Eurowings has been connecting Prague with 31 new European destinations since October 2021, 14. The Lufthansa subsidiary will be stationing three Airbus A2022 aircraft including local crews in the Czech capital by summer 320. The flights are operated by Eurowings Europe, the Austrian branch of the group of companies.
