The holiday airline Discover Airlines has decided to offer premium economy class passengers a higher quality in-flight service in the future. This includes serving on porcelain and in glasses in the future.
Some airlines in the Lufthansa Group show how catering is served in the premium economy class, which is located between business and economy class. People often rely on plastic and cardboard packaging as well as disposable cups that are familiar from Eco. This is due, among other things, to the fact that it is intended to show that it is an economy class, albeit premium economy, and not business class.
Discover Airlines is now moving away from this approach and will in future serve food on porcelain and serve drinks in glasses in the Premium Eco on long-haul routes. The focus is on business class. Furthermore, in the future there will be a cheese platter for passengers in this transport class shortly after take-off. In a press release, the Lufthansa subsidiary emphasizes that alcoholic drinks such as beer and wine will continue to be included in the flight price. There should be no changes in terms of selection.
According to the company's own information, the change in the premium economy class should lead to a further reduction in the use of disposable plastic materials. Since the beginning, the holiday airline has placed emphasis on minimizing plastic on board and testing alternative materials. For example, there is no plastic packaging when issuing blankets and bamboo cutlery has always been used in economy class. In the next step, the airline will examine to what extent disposable and plastic can be further reduced in economy class.
Discover Airlines currently offers Premium Economy Class on long-haul routes. According to the company's own information, the seat distance should be larger - in direct comparison with the Eco class. Depending on the aircraft configuration, up to 31 seats are available to travelers in this travel class.
