At the holiday airline Discover Airlines, the fronts between employers and unions appear to be deadlocked, even after a short warning strike. The Cockpit Association has now initiated a ballot on a possible pilot strike.
The flight attendant union UFO has heard that they are also dissatisfied with the way the talks have gone so far. The “S-word” has not yet been heard from the cabin crew, but those pilots who are members of the Cockpit Association are already voting on a strike.
Shortly before Christmas 2023, Discover Airlines already had one a short warning strike, which the Cockpit association had called for. Since Monday, January 15, 2024, the members have now been allowed to decide whether there should be further calls for a work stoppage or not. Employee representatives are currently assuming that there will be overwhelming approval.
But this alone is not a call for a strike. However, this could follow immediately after the final vote next week, provided there is no rapprochement between the two collective bargaining parties. Both UFO and the VC accuse Discover Airlines of pursuing a kind of stalling tactic.
Those Discover pilots who are members of the Cockpit Association can vote on whether there should be a strike or not until January 23, 2024. At the same time, the VC is demanding that employers submit an improved offer in order to avert possible strike action.
