Trial operation in Germany: Newspapers are delivered by drones

In the German district of Düren, daily newspapers from Heinen Verlag are currently being delivered by drone on a trial basis. This is a pilot project in which selected households will have their subscriptions delivered to them by air.

Previously, the relevant approval was granted by the Federal Aviation Office. Among other things, this stipulates that drones weighing up to 25 kilograms may drop objects over inhabited areas at precisely defined points. With the test operation, the publishing house wants to test whether drone delivery brings advantages in rural areas. However, it is assumed that this will not be possible across the board for a long time.
