The Australian airline Qantas is thinking out loud about introducing mandatory vaccination for its own staff. First of all, they want to put pressure on the government with the help of a campaign so that aviation employees are given preferential access to the vaccines.
A few months ago, Qantas boss Alan Joyce caused a sensation with the announcement that only vaccinated passengers would be carried. At that time, it was the world's first carrier that wanted to make Covid vaccinations a basic requirement for flying. In Australia, however, the administrations are making very slow progress.
Joyce told local media that he would like all aviation personnel to be vaccinated against Covid-19. He even demands from ABC Radio that this should even become mandatory. There are currently no government plans for mandatory vaccination that would include airline and / or airport employees.
The Qantas managing director also takes the view that flight personnel in particular should be given preferential access to the vaccines. With the help of a campaign one wants to advertise in the industry for voluntary vaccinations, but also a possible prioritization. Incidentally, Qantas does not have its own program; instead, employees have to take advantage of the offers of the respective regional government. As an incentive for this, they are credited with eight paid working hours.
