The German car rental company Sixt SE once again increased its group revenue in the first quarter of the current year. It took in 580,8 million euros, which was 15 percent more than in the first quarter of 2019.

In a direct comparison with the same period of the previous year, the Sixt Group had an increase in revenue of 76,1 percent. However, the first three months of last year were severely affected by the corona pandemic, so demand for rental cars was rather subdued. Thus, in the first quarter of 2021, a loss of 13,7 million euros was recorded.

Most recently, earnings before taxes were EUR 93,5 million, significantly higher than in the same period in 2019. At that time, the bottom line was EUR 40,1 million. According to Sixt, it was able to expand its fleet by 35 percent year-on-year. It currently has around 125.000 vehicles that its own companies offer for rental. The fleets of franchisees are not included in the stated number.

The management of Sixt SE is currently assuming that demand will be very high, especially in the second and third quarters of the current financial year. This is primarily due to the fact that private holiday trips are picking up again this year. Supply is also tight due to the fact that vehicle manufacturers have backorders. This affects the prices, which are rather high this year. Sixt assumes that this will have a long-term character.
