In the future, Regiojet wants to get involved on the Austrian Westbahn route. In addition, the private provider is launching new connections between Munich and Budapest as well as Zagreb. A night train connection is also included in the plans.

Regiojet intends to launch a daytime route pair between the Hungarian capital and Munich. This will be routed via Salzburg and Vienna, among others. In contrast to the private competitor Westbahn, the main station in the Austrian capital will be used.

In addition, Regiojet will also operate night trains. These lead from the Bavarian capital to Budapest and Zagreb. According to the private railway company, the train is divided at Vienna Central Station. One part will continue the journey to the Hungarian capital and the other will go to Zagreb. In the opposite direction, the two trains come together in Vienna Hbf.

With this, Regiojet will put two daily connections between Vienna and Munich on the rails. The train, which runs during daylight hours, comes from Budapest or vice versa. During the night there is also the possibility to travel to/from Zagreb. However, the exact start date has not yet been determined.

When asked about the fact that trains between Hegyeshalom and Freilassing vv can already be seen in the ÖBB timetable system from December 11, 2022, a Regiojet manager told Aviation.Direct: “ÖBB has already entered the train paths from Austria in Scotty by mistake, without the train path in Germany and also without knowing when the "start" of the new connection will actually be. You will be taken out of Scotty in the next few days."

According to Regiojet, the planned trains on the Westbahn route represent a "regular expansion of the offer". Regarding the possible start date, the manager said: "I would like to emphasize that these traffics are in the planning phase and that there are several factors (pandemic, availability of the resources) depends on when and in what form the corresponding traffic from RegioJet will start".

If Regiojet implements the plans, there would be three providers between Vienna and Munich in the future: ÖBB/DB, Westbahn and Regiojet. This could possibly be joined by Flixtrain, because the Flixbus offshoot is planning to start in spring 2023 to drive between Stuttgart and Vienna. Travelers would then have the choice of four providers. While the ÖBB, Westbahn and Regiojet are partners of the Austrian climate ticket, the possible acceptance at Flixtrain is still completely open.

No ski trains - better travel times between Brno and Vienna Airport

At least in the short term, the nightly ski trains from Prague to Tyrol that Regiojet has been planning for some time will not come. These are also currently visible in the ÖBB reservation system, but the private railway operator will not be publishing them for the time being. "There will be no trains from us to Tyrol this winter for ski vacationers," says the Regiojet manager.

On December 11, 2022, Regiojet will start rail services between Brno and Vienna-Schwechat Airport. This results in some improvements for the passengers, as the company representative explains: “I am pleased that we are also expanding our customers on the Brno-Vienna route with an additional connection in the morning hours from Brno to Vienna or in the morning evening hours from Vienna to Brno".
