The Airbus A220 machine type is currently only used by Swiss in the Lufthansa Group. That could change, however, because according to Bloomberg News they are evaluating a conversion of the entire regional fleet to the A220 series.
Lufthansa is currently using the Embraer 190/195 and Bombardier CRJ-900 models. The A220-100 and A220-300 are in use at Swiss. It is clear that both Airbus and its Brazilian competitor Embraer are trying to secure a possible major order for the renewal of the E190 / 95 and CRJ-900 fleets.
Most recently it was rumored that the E2 series is preferred for Air Dolomiti. Bloomberg News claims to have learned that the competing model A220 is said to have better cards at the moment, as a replacement for the E190 / 95 and CRJ-900 models. CEO Carsten Spohr did not want to go into this yet and points out that the company is at an early stage and is in talks with all potentially relevant manufacturers. A definitive decision has not yet been made, Spohr noted during a conference call on the latest figures. Both Embraer and Airbus are openly in the running.
