From the point of view of the tourism commissioner of the German federal government, Thomas Bareiß, vacation trips during the Easter holidays will still only be possible to a very limited extent due to the pandemic.

“I think that traveling is something that will be very difficult to imagine for the next two or three months,” he said today on RTL and ntv's show “Frühstart”. He does not expect improvement until the second quarter. “It will get better again from the Whitsun holidays. And I hope that summer will be a very long travel period. ”For the summer, however, Bareiß expects that vacation not only in Germany but - depending on the location - even in distant countries could be possible, reports the ORF

But before all the easing, the government is planning to tighten the entry rules for travelers returning from areas with particularly high numbers of cases or coronavirus mutations. An amendment to the relevant regulation could be decided by the cabinet on Wednesday, according to Bareiß. A quarantine obligation continues to apply when returning from countries or regions with more than 50 new infections per 100.000 inhabitants within seven days. There should be an additional test requirement for entry from high-risk areas with more than 200 new cases per 100.000 inhabitants in seven days.
