With effect from January 1, 2021, Deutsche Lufthansa AG appoints Remco Steenbergen, a new CFO. After Ulrik Svensson and Thorsten Dirks left the company, CEO Carsten Spohr was the last head of this area on an interim basis.

With the appointment of Remco Steenbergen, a finance department will be set up again, in which the areas of controlling and risk management, corporate finance, accounting and balance sheets, taxes, purchasing and mergers & acquisitions will be bundled. The manager's contract runs until December 31, 2023.

"With Remco Steenbergen we are gaining a financial expert with capital market experience as the new CFO for the Lufthansa Group," says Karl-Ludwig Kley, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Lufthansa AG. “He brings excellent financial expertise from various companies and industries and has also convinced the Supervisory Board with his personality. Right now, in this difficult pandemic with its grave consequences for air traffic, an internationally experienced and recognized CFO is more important than ever for the Lufthansa Group. This applies both to coping with the current crisis and to the following years, in which we have to and want to reduce the state stabilization funds. "

Remco Steenbergen was most recently Group Chief Financial Officer of the Barry Callebaut Group, based in Zurich, Switzerland. Before that, the Dutchman worked for Philips and KPMG. Over the course of his career, he has worked in a variety of companies in various global executive and financial management positions in the Netherlands, UK, Taiwan, Belgium, Ireland, the US and Switzerland. Remco Steenbergen holds an MBA from the Institute for Management and Development (IMD) in Lausanne, Switzerland, and a degree in accounting from the Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. Remco Steenbergen (52) is married and has three children.

“Remco Steenbergen will be an excellent addition to our board of directors. We look forward to a close professional and personal collaboration with him. He assumes a great deal of responsibility in our company at a particularly challenging time. I am convinced that we will master the tasks that lie ahead of us together and expand our leading role in the industry, ”said Carsten Spohr.
