The airline Riyadh Air, which is currently being set up, has not yet operated a single flight. However, one has already contributed to the United Nations Global Compact program. This is a commitment to implementing the UN principles.

Managing director Tony Douglas announced that the carrier he led had also signed the 17 sustainability goals. Formal accession to the UN Global Compact took place on March 5, 2024. The Simpleflying.com portal first reported on this.

The UN program stipulates, among other things, that certain basic values in the areas of working conditions, human rights, environmental protection and the fight against corruption are adhered to. Saudi Arabia in particular is always in the crossfire of criticism when it comes to human rights. That's exactly why Riyadh Air wants to position itself as a cosmopolitan company right from the start.

The carrier, which is currently under construction, has not yet flown a foot high. The first flight is announced for next year. The plan is to set up a new airline that will compete with Emirates Airline and Etihad Airways, among others. The aim is to gradually develop Riyadh into a hub for those transferring.
