The British engine manufacturer has landed a major order from the US Air Force: The Air Force is ordering F-130 engines from Rolls-Royce worth up to $ 2,6 billion.
These are to be used as replacement engines for the B-52 Stratofortress bombers. Rolls-Royce manager Craig McVay described the order as a great success. The F-130 engine will offer "significantly higher" fuel efficiency and should enable the bombers to remain in service until the 2050s. Rolls-Royce prevailed in the competition against the established supplier Pratt & Whitney, which belongs to the US defense company Raytheon. This is reported by the aviation portal Aero.
