The state-owned Royal Jordanian Airlines is seeking support from the government in the amount of 282 million US dollars. This is to largely cover the losses that have arisen due to the corona pandemic.

The Bloomberg agency reports, among other things, that in addition to covering losses, the purchase of new aircraft will also be financed. Royal Jordanian Airlines plans to double its fleet in the next five years.

It is hoped that the funds will be paid out in two tranches. In the first half of 2022 - subject to government approval - around 141 million euros will flow out. Company boss Samer Majali wants to cover the losses that arose from the second quarter of 2020. The remaining amount is to be transferred in the further course of the coming year and will primarily be used for down payments for new aircraft.
