A new airline, which recently received an AOC and operating license from the Civil Aviation Authority of Romania, is taking off in Bucharest under the name of Armenia Airways. Initially, it will fly a Boeing 737-300 taken over by Air Bucharest.
Armenia Airways hit the headlines in 2018 after buying the two Airbus A310s with the registrations YR-LCA and YR-LCB from Tarom. Contrary to original assurances, the aircraft were not operated by the company but were resold to Iran.
The fleet of the Armenian parent company currently consists of one Boeing 737-300 and one B737-500. From Yerevan there are scheduled flights to Russia, Georgia and Iran. The Romanian offshoot will initially fly with a Boeing 737-300. According to the local portal Boardingpass.ro, there are talks with Air Bucharest about a possible purchase of a second aircraft of this type. The latter company is a Romanian charter airline.
