The Russian Azimuth Airlines ordered six Airbus A220-300s at the MAKS air show and will be the first operator of this model in the Russian Federation from next year.

The regional jets will be purchased from the leasing company ALC and will be stationed in Rostov-on-Don, Krasnodar and Mineralnye Vody. In the course of the announcement, Azimuth Airlines stated that the A220-300 aircraft would be used on both domestic and international short-haul flights.

The carrier is doing a unique balancing act, as many competitors in this size class have opted exclusively for the Sukhoi Superjet due to lavish government grants. Azimut orders from both Airbus and United Aircraft Corporation.
