Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair has expanded its route network at Nuremberg Airport (Albrecht Dürer Airport) with another destination in North Africa. Since the beginning of April 2026, the market leader in the European low-cost segment has been connecting the Bavarian airport directly with the Moroccan capital, Rabat.
The new route will be served twice weekly, with flights operating on Mondays and Fridays. This is the airline's response to the increasing demand for point-to-point connections to the Maghreb region, which are important for tourism, business travelers, and ethnic traffic.
Additional market analysis highlights that Morocco has become a strategic focus for Ryanair. The airline recently received approval for domestic flights within the kingdom, solidifying its position as the leading foreign carrier in the region. The Nuremberg route is part of a larger expansion that includes a total of 35 new routes to and from Morocco in the 2026 summer flight schedule. For Nuremberg Airport, the new connection strengthens its portfolio of medium-haul destinations, following the successful establishment of services to Agadir and Marrakech in recent years.
Ryanair operates this route with Boeing 737-800 and the more modern Boeing 737 Max 200 aircraft, which have a capacity of up to 197 seats. The flight time between Franconia and the Moroccan coast is approximately three and a half hours. Nuremberg Airport emphasizes the strategic importance of the connection, as Rabat serves not only as a political center but also as a cultural gateway to the region. By choosing Mondays and Fridays as flight days, the carrier is also targeting short-break travelers who want to spend a long weekend in the Moroccan metropolis.
From an economic perspective, the new route supports the growth targets of Nuremberg Airport, which is aiming for a consolidation of passenger numbers after the turbulence of recent years. Morocco has become a stable year-round destination for German travelers, minimizing the load factor risks for the airline. Since Rabat also boasts a growing industrial infrastructure, a certain volume of business travelers is also expected. According to industry reports, booking figures for the first few weeks of flights show a positive trend, making the long-term continuation of the route in the 2026/27 winter flight schedule likely.
