The low-cost airline Ryanair will fly from the Portuguese capital in the summer of 2024 with 28 aircraft stationed, despite the considerable criticism that has been leveled in Lisbon regarding airport fees and the distribution of take-off and landing rights.

CEO Michael O'Leary explained that 14 more routes will be offered in direct comparison to the previous period. It should be noted in this regard that some routes that the low-cost airline is now advertising as new additions are more likely to be resumptions, as one or another destination has already been served from Lisbon in the past.

In summer 2024, Ryanair will also offer the destinations Alicante, Belfast, Budapest, Faro, Ibiza, Krakow, Madrid, Marrakech, Pisa, Poznan, Rome-Fiumicino, Stockholm-Arlanda and Tangier from Lisbon. According to the company's own information, a total of 28 machines will be stationed in the Portuguese capital. The investment amount is estimated at three billion US dollars.

Growth also in Poland, but not in Warsaw-Modlin

Another country where Ryanair is expanding on a large scale is Poland. According to the company, a total of 64 new routes are being launched from various airports. But there is also a Polish airport where the offer is noticeably reduced. This is Warsaw-Modlin, which, apart from a few charter flights, is only used by the Irish low-cost airline and its local subsidiary.

Specifically, the Modlin management is accused of failing to expand the terminal according to Ryanair's wishes. The low-cost airline also criticizes the fact that the fees are comparatively too high. Numerous connections that were previously offered from this airport will be – or have already been – relocated to the larger Warsaw Chopin Airport and other Polish airports.

In this respect, the self-statement that 64 routes from Poland would be completely new is misleading. In many cases these are resumptions, because one or two destinations were already in the portfolio in the past or destinations that were - or are - discontinued from Modlin and are now served from other Polish airports. A total of 2024 aircraft will be stationed in Poland in the 42 summer flight schedule, distributed across the various bases. These are operated by the local subsidiary Buzz, whose legal company name remains Ryanair Sun SA.
