The low-cost airline Ryanair has filed another lawsuit against the approval of the state aid for TAP Air Portugal. The first attempt was successful, but the court of the European Union granted the EU Commission to improve the reasoning.
This has happened in the meantime and Ryanair is now suing the changed approval of the state aid. Specifically, it is about 462 million euros that were made available to TAP by the state of Portugal. These are part of a 1,2 billion euro rescue package, which is divided into loans and direct grants.
After the original approval of the EU Commission was overturned in court, the competition authorities changed the reason and again gave the green light. That is obviously a thorn in the side of Ryanair, which is why a new lawsuit has been brought before the General Court of the European Union.
