South African Airways will probably do without long-haul flights for the next two years.
The carrier is expected to take off again soon - but only on short routes for the time being. SAA wants to give an exact date for the resumption of flight operations when negotiations with the pilots about severance packages have been concluded, such as Reisevor9.de reported. That could happen as early as July or August. SAA has not operated any commercial flights since September last year.
The airline left its bankruptcy proceedings filed in December 2019 in April after receiving around € 450 million from the government. According to the management's restructuring plans, the number of employees will shrink from more than 4.000 to around 1.000, and the fleet should shrink from 44 to 26 aircraft according to the restructuring plans.
