The energy group Varo and Lufthansa signed a declaration of intent last week on the production and supply of sustainable aviation fuels. Larger quantities of SAF could be delivered in Munich as early as 2026.

The companies are also promoting innovative processes for producing green hydrogen from biogenic waste materials. Green hydrogen is an important CO2-free energy carrier that also plays an important role in the production of sustainable aviation fuels.

The declaration of intent underpins the Lufthansa Group's goal of promoting the availability, market launch and use of sustainable aviation fuels as a central element of its sustainability strategy. The airline group is constantly examining options for long-term purchase agreements and is already one of SAF's largest customers in Europe.
