Salzburg Airport intends to invest heavily in solar systems over the next few years, which are to be installed on the site of Austria's second largest airport. Panels are already mounted on the roofs of the buildings, which produce around 480.000 kilowatt hours of electricity per year.
Within the next few years, the production of electrical energy from solar power is to be greatly expanded, airport manager Bettina Ganghofer told the Salzburger Nachrichten. They also want to set up solar panels in open spaces and produce several million kilowatt hours per year.
“Overall, I see potential to set up more than six million kilowatt hours here over the next decade. About half of them are open spaces and the other half are roofs,” Ganghofer is quoted as saying by the Salzburger Nachrichten.
