Winter business is traditionally particularly important for Salzburg Airport, because Austria's second largest airport makes the lion's share of annual sales in the cold season. In the previous year, the ski business was a total failure due to the corona pandemic. Numerous airlines have now presented their winter plans.

The offer from the United Kingdom to Salzburg is particularly strong. With London-City and Southampton, British Airways is launching two new routes. The IAG group member is also flying back to the city of Mozart from London Heathrow.

Ryanair will fly from London Stansted and now also from Manchester to Salzburg. Jet2 is relaunching Newcastle and Bristol. This carrier also flies to the city of Mozart from Birmingham, Edinburgh, East Midlands and other UK airports.

Coming from Keflavik there are even two providers this year, because Icelandair and the newly founded Play offer their flight services. Tarom starts a connection from / to Bucharest. Air Alsie will fly to / from Lübeck again from February 2022 under the Lübeck Air brand.

Easyjet reactivates Hamburg and Berlin

Transavia has announced the destinations Rotterdam, Eindhoven and Amsterdam from Salzburg this year. Flydubai will continue to fly to Mozart City from Dubai. Eurowings heads for Berlin, Düsseldorf, Hamburg and Cologne / Bonn several times a week. Lufthansa has Frankfurt am Main on offer. Easyjet will return to Hamburg and Berlin.

Turkish Airlines maintains the hub connection with Istanbul. There will also be various outgoing charters from Salzburg, including Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Hurghada. It can be assumed that further incoming charters will be launched in the coming weeks and months.

“Our team at the airport is well prepared for the coming winter and all colleagues are already impatient in the starting blocks! We have put together the winter flight program together with our airline partners and if the entry restrictions in the various countries do not affect our planning, we expect the upward trend to continue in winter. The easing of entry in the various countries is to be welcomed in any case, ”says Airport Authorized Representative and Head of Traffic & Sales, Christopher Losmann. “Even if the recovery in the industry will continue until at least 2024/2025, we will remain cautiously optimistic. Premium partners like British Airways in particular are creating euphoria with new route announcements shortly before the start of the season. For example, British Airways will add Southampton and London City Airport to its program in addition to London Heathrow ”.
