According to the current information status, the low-cost airline Wizz Air will not return to Salzburg in the 2022 summer flight schedule. The plans for a non-stop connection to St. Petersburg were discontinued. Whether it will still be possible to fly to Kyiv-Zhuljany this year is absolutely not foreseeable at the moment.

Im summer 2020 surprised Wizz Air with the short-term start of some flight connections to Salzburg. After just a few flights, it was over and since then the Hungarian company has been postponing its comeback to the city of Mozart at regular intervals. Most recently, the “announced range of routes” was reduced to the destinations of St. Petersburg and Kyiv-Schuljany. The most recently communicated resumption dates were postponed long before Russia's military attack on Ukraine.

While the plans for the St. Petersburg flights have finally ended and this route is definitely not to be included, Wizz-Air is sticking to Kyiv-Zhuljany. Due to the war it is completely unclear when the carrier can start this route. It is currently not foreseeable how long the war in Ukraine will last and what damage it will do to the country's airports.

Unless Wizz Air comes up with the idea of offering other routes from Salzburg at short notice, there will be no comeback in Salzburg in the 2022 summer flight schedule. There are currently no signs that other routes could be launched from the city of Mozart. Wizz Air continues to have four aircraft stranded in Ukraine. Three are located at Kyiv Zhuliany Airport and one in Lviv.
