International air traffic to / from Saudi Arabia is currently severely restricted. The government wants to lift the extensive ban on May 17, 2021, provided there are no setbacks in terms of the corona pandemic.

This would suit the low-cost airline Flynas, which the carrier plans to head to Vienna and Salzburg airports from mid-May 2021. The city of Mozart was wanted to be connected to Saudi Arabia last year, but the project was not implemented for the time being due to the pandemic. However, the plans were not rejected.

The airline Saudia has already announced that the international route network will be ramped up from mid-May 2021. The government had expressly confirmed that all borders should be opened. However, it is still unclear whether negative tests, quarantine and / or vaccinations will be required for entry into Saudi Arabia.

On March 31, 2021, Saudi Arabia closed its borders in order to be able to shield itself from the introduction of corona mutations. The rapid spread of the South African and British variants were particularly decisive.
