Saudi Arabia opens airspace for Carrie out of Israel

The leaders of Israel and Saudi Arabia have agreed that the airspace may be used in the future. This is an advantage for El Al in particular, because the carrier saves the detours that have been common up to now.

For decades, Saudi Arabia's airspace was off-limits to Israeli airlines. This also applied to those of the United Arab Emirates, Jordan and Bahrain. The political thaw of recent years has led to massive easing. Two years ago, Saudi Arabia agreed that a special corridor could be used for all flights to/from Bahrain and the UAE.

From the point of view of the Israeli carriers, another breakthrough has now been achieved: Saudi Arabia is opening up the airspace in general. For example, El Al now saves time-consuming detours, because you can fly directly over the kingdom. Jordan, the UAE and Bahrain, among others, have already released their airspaces in recent years. The political thaw also led to the launch of new air services between the countries with which an agreement has been reached and Israel.
