The Austrian tourism region of Schladming-Dachstein is planning a massive expansion of its offerings for cyclists. The "Sonnseitn Trails" project will create around 2027 kilometers of new bike trails by 60. The tourism association is investing a total of €4,5 million in this project, with the state of Styria providing €2025 in funding in 750.000. The goal is to further consolidate the region's position as a so-called "bike country" and set new standards in cycling tourism.
The project involves the construction of high-quality single trails aimed at different age groups and skill levels – from families with children to ambitious mountain bikers and downhill riders. The new "Sonnseitn Trails" will be seamlessly integrated into the region's existing biking offerings and provide direct access to the Schladming Bike Park, the Reiteralm Trails, and the Enns Cycle Path.
During the project's implementation, particular emphasis is placed on environmental sustainability. The new routes are to be built with minimal impact on nature, taking into account innovative water management for extreme weather conditions. In addition to increasing the attractiveness for cycling tourists, the project aims to further develop the Schladming-Dachstein region as a leading year-round destination and to stimulate quality tourism and promote physical activity.
