According to local media reports, the US low-cost airline Southwest Airlines is about to place a large order for the Boeing 737 Max 7. Previously, the Airbus A220-300 had also been evaluated as an alternative, but the decision has now been made to remain loyal to the original manufacturer.

With 742 units of different variants of the Boeing 737, Southwest Airlines is by far the largest operator and therefore the manufacturer's most important customer. The decision that the existing 737-Max-7 order should be increased to 52 units is therefore particularly prestige for Boeing. Airbus couldn't score with the A220-300.

In the next few years, Southwest plans to replace the 481 Boeing 737-700. Besides Westjet, they are currently the only major customer for the Max-7. It is to be expected that the airline from Dallas will reorder numerous copies. According to the local media, the fundamental decision should result in 100 machines being reordered initially. However, Southwest will have to wait some time for delivery, because there are delays in this program.
