Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn are relying on the rapid expansion of joint offers for train to flight. In Frankfurt today, both companies presented their plans for a joint product offensive.

The Lufthansa Express Rail network is being expanded to include five cities. From December, extra-fast Sprinter trains will also travel to Frankfurt Airport for the first time. With the expansion of their cooperation, Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn are setting a new standard in the environmentally friendly networking of modes of transport. “A good cooperation is now turning into a comprehensive partnership that has never existed between Lufthansa and Deutsche Bahn. At the end of the year, DB will network the largest German airport even more closely with the railways with new sprinter connections. Traveling by train will be faster and more comfortable, ”promises DB Board Member Berthold Huber.

Larger network and new, extra-fast sprinters

Deutsche Bahn and Lufthansa already offer 134 feeder trains from 17 German cities to Frankfurt Airport every day. Another five cities will be added in the second half of 2021. From July it will be possible for the first time to travel to Frankfurt Airport with Lufthansa Express Rail from Hamburg and Munich, and from December also from Berlin, Bremen and Münster.

In addition, new Sprinter connections will celebrate their premiere from December. The train journey between Munich and Cologne is shortened to under four hours. There are direct flights to and from Munich and Nuremberg twice a day in three or two hours, with no additional stops to Frankfurt Airport - half an hour faster than today and precisely tailored to the departure and arrival times of the Lufthansa hub.
