Scottish regional airline Loganair will phase out its eight remaining Saab 340Bs. You could fetch them for around 12 million pounds sterling. As a replacement, ATR turboprop aircraft, which will be purchased from lessors, will be flown in.
Currently the owners of the carrier are located looking for a buyer because they want to retire for reasons of age. The fleet renewal has already been tackled, as eight Saab 340Bs have been sold. The first leasing contracts for ATR turboprop aircraft have been signed with Abelo Capital Aviation, among others.
There is a high probability that it is at least partly ATR42-600, but the company did not want to determine whether all units are of this type or whether some of the larger ATR72-600 will be among them. The new machines will be put into service by July 2023. Step by step, the eight Saab 340B will then leave the fleet.
The first ATR machines are expected to be taken over in the first quarter of 2023 and then stationed in Glasgow. From there you want to fly to Islay, Benbecula, Sumburgh, Kirkwall, Londonderry and Stornoway.
However, these are not the first ATR machines in Loganair's fleet, as they already operate five ATR42-500, two ATR42-600, four ATR72-500F and four ATR72-600. The fleet also consists of two Embraer 135, one de Havilland DHC-6-300, two DHC-6-400, 13 Embraer 145, two Saab 340AF and two BN-2.
