Switzerland has removed the federal states of Vienna, Upper Austria, Lower Austria, Burgenland and Salzburg, which have been classified as risk areas since September, from its red list. The new regulation applies from tomorrow and lifts all quarantine requirements for travelers from Austria.

This loosening comes as a bit of a surprise, as the number of infections in the Austrian federal states is on the rise again. In future, the Swiss Federal Council will only include states and territories on the risk list whose 14-day incidence per 100.000 inhabitants is 60 higher than the incidence in Switzerland. The limit is currently 822, which is far above the Austrian value. Austria classifies Switzerland as a country with a "high security risk" (level four), but there is no travel warning like that ORF reported.
