The area of the insolvent Schwerin-Parchim Airport is currently used as a parking lot for vehicles that have not yet been sold. Around 1.500 vehicles are "stored" on the site and await their onward transport to dealers. In terms of flight operations, however, it is extremely quiet, apart from birds.

Parchim-Airport is still in insolvency proceedings. The control zone was deactivated in April 2019, so the airport has been closed since then. Take-offs and landings are therefore prohibited by the authorities. According to a report by North German Broadcasting Nothing to change that quickly, because the responsible ministry extended the deactivation for a further 90 days.

It is also pointed out that the resumption of flight operations is not in sight on October 8, 2020, but the deactivation will always be extended every 90 days. About a year ago, the operating company owned by Chinese businesspeople slid into bankruptcy. Since then, there has been no interested party who would like to breathe new life into the Schwerin-Parchim regional airport. Previously, this was a very popular place to park aircraft that were temporarily not required by airlines. Now the automotive industry has discovered this "parking lot".
