The Berlin airports Schönefeld and Tegel recorded a significant decrease in passengers in September 2020 compared to August 2020. A total of 693.601 travelers used the two airports - a solid minus of 16,3 percent. The management attributes this to increasing travel warnings and changed quarantine rules.

“The decline in the number of passengers in September shows how directly the infection process and the quarantine requirement have an impact on the number of passengers. In order to be able to reliably connect the capital region with the world even during the pandemic, we need fewer blanket quarantine regulations and more test options at the airports. In addition, the actual infection hotspots should be more clearly delimited in order to be able to continue to reach other areas, ”says BER boss Engelbert Lütke Daldrup.

The Schönefeld location handled a total of 213.412 passengers; in Tegel there were 480.189 passengers. This was a decrease of 78,7 percent compared to the same month last year. 9.522 flight movements were registered for both airports, of which Schönefeld carried out 3.747 and Tegel 5.775 flights. Compared to the previous year, this means a minus of 63 percent.

In the period from January to September 2020, a total of 8.038.590 passengers have been carried so far. Of these, around 2.600.446 in Schönefeld and 5.438.144 in Tegel. That is 70,5 percent less than in the same period last year.
